Here you will find the most frequently asked questions about our workshops and courses.

Questions Workshops and Courses
Workshop or Course Books
You can reserve your spot by purchasing a ticket for a workshop or course. It's first come, first served.
What is the difference between a workshop and a course?
A workshop lasts one day (part) and a course consists of several lessons, often in the evenings.
Can I give a workshop as a gift?
Our store sells gift cards that you can load with credit to use for materials, workshops, and courses. Can't make it to the store? You can also order a gift card online.
Questions Saturday Workshops
What is included in a workshop ticket?
The ticket includes materials, use of hand tools and power tools, coffee, explanation during the workshop and guidance.
I am inexperienced, can I finish the project in one day/course?
The courses/workshops are suitable for all skill levels and are designed so that everyone should be able to produce a final product within the allotted time. Our instructors are there to provide advice and assistance where needed, but it remains your own responsibility to complete your project. After the workshop/course, no claims can be made for materials, tools, or guidance.
I want to work with my own material, is that allowed?
Yes, that's possible. The registration fee for Saturday workshops includes materials. However, bringing your own materials doesn't mean you'll receive a discount on the registration fee.
Are materials included in the workshops and courses?
Materials are included in the workshops and courses. If you'd like to use materials other than the basic ones during a workshop (e.g., hardwood, oak, or bamboo instead of pine), this is possible for an additional fee.
Can we participate in a Saturday workshop with a group?
Yes, this is possible, provided there are still enough tickets available. The maximum number of participants per workshop is around 6 people.
Can I leave my work or project after the workshop or after using the workshop?
No, Buurman doesn't have sufficient storage space. Items must be taken away immediately after the workshop.
Do you organize children's parties or activities for children?
We do not organize activities or parties for children.
I do not speak Dutch, is joining a workshop an option for me?
All of our staff members speak English so it is possible to join and receive assistance in English. It could be that at the start of the workshop the explanation will be in Dutch, but we will always make sure you get a properly translated explanation in English.
I bought a ticket for a workshop/course, but I can no longer attend. Will I get a refund?
If you are unable to attend the course or workshop after purchasing a ticket, you are not entitled to a refund. More information about this can be found in our terms and conditions.
Furniture Making Course Level 1 and 2 Questions
Should I choose Level 1 or Level 2, what is the difference?
Have you always dreamed of making your own furniture, but never, or hardly, held a cordless screwdriver, and don't know the difference between a Phillips head and a Torx? Do you want to learn how to work with various tools and learn more about working with (reclaimed) wood? Then the Furniture Making Course Level 1 is perfect for you! However, if assembling an IKEA cabinet is a breeze, and you have plenty of experience with a crosscut saw and plunge saw, then Furniture Making Level 2 is more suitable for you. If you have little or no experience with these two machine tools, there's a good chance you won't be able to finish the piece of furniture within the allotted time. In our experience, a better end result is achieved when you first take the Level 1 course.
What is included in a level 1 course ticket?
The course lasts four evenings. You'll work on a (bedside) table. The design is fixed, but you can fully customize it by playing with the dimensions, proportions, and materials. The course includes materials. This refers to the standard materials used for the course/workshop design. If participants wish to use other materials, this is possible upon consultation, and an additional fee will be agreed upon. Of course, guidance, a course booklet, and coffee and tea are included. You'll learn to work with cordless drills, a plunge saw, and a crosscut saw, among other tools. The registration fee includes materials. This refers to the standard materials used for the course/workshop design. If participants wish to use other materials, this is possible upon consultation, and an additional fee will be agreed upon.
Can I temporarily store my final product/furniture at Buurman after the course?
Unfortunately, Buurman doesn't have sufficient storage space. Items must be taken immediately after the workshop. During the course, course materials can, of course, be stored at Buurman.
I can no longer participate in the course, will I get my money back?
If you are unable to attend the entire course after purchasing a ticket, you will not be eligible for a refund. For more information, please see our terms and conditions. If you are absent from one of the course sessions, you will not be eligible for replacement sessions.
Sawing Service and Other Questions
Can I have material cut to size by you?
Yes, provided the material was purchased from us and the wood is untreated, not HPLs such as Trespa, plastics, or metals. We charge a €10 start-up fee for this, followed by €1 per minute. We cannot guarantee we can cut it for you immediately; we schedule sawing jobs. You can then pick them up later, depending on availability and schedule. We always discuss this with you when creating the job.
Did you cut my material to size?
No, we can only cut to size material that is purchased from us in the store.
Can I temporarily store my material at Buurman?
No, Buurman does not have sufficient storage space. Items must be taken immediately after the workshop.
